Inspired by the same idea of memory, I have created a sewable fabric that is made from 100 year old bricks that were once buildings and houses in the city of Toronto and a seaweed based binder. A very limited number of cassettes have been made of the album and are inside a small pocket made of this material.

about

My memory is quite spotty. As I have gotten older, and my issues with memory get stronger, I find myself wondering if things I remember are actually how they happened or if my mind has conveniently made them up to suit my stories.

On trips over the past years, I have been recording sounds from different places with no intention other than to use it as a way to conjure up memories. Last year, while digitally converting piles of childhood home movies, I found that my mind was setting the visuals to music, maybe in hopes to try to anchor the memory in my mind somehow.

The music on this album is my way of starting to string together memories I fear forgetting one day, and setting it to music, in a form my brain seems to have no problem with remembering.

Recordings heard throughout this album:

Summer - Recordings from a beautiful summer day in Toronto 2021.

Ueno - Recordings with my phone while traveling around Japan in the fall of 2019

Painting - Hi-8 camcorder recordings of my partner Nicole and her parents from 1989.

Kilos - Hi-8 camcorder recordings of myself, my brother, and my parents in 1988.

Earthquake - A recording of my Aunt telling a story of an earthquake in the late 80's, told to me in a hospital in Los Angeles during my last visit to see her in 2019 before her passing in 2021.
